Make A Difference
GF Central Class of 1988 – Making-A-Difference in 2008
The reunion committee has struggled with how the cost of the reunion will affect each and everyone of you. We are not out to make a buck on this event. We do want it to be a special occasion - You only have one 20 Year Class Reunion. There are some fixed costs and there are some variable numbers. Until we know the number of people attending we really don't know if we have enough funds. By the same token, until we know the numbers we don't know how much money we really need for the variable expenses. Our solution to this dilemma is to make some plans keeping every ones budget in mind (Friday is FREE) and set a price for the events we have some set costs for and to give everyone something they can feel good about. The idea we have come up with is to donate all remaining funds to charity.
Any funds remaining after expenses are paid from reunion events will be donated to a charity of choice. There are many great causes and every little bit helps. You can also make a personal donation (no one is obligated).
What is the connection to the reunion?
As students we did countless fundraisers for many purposes. In the past 20 years life has taken many turns, hills and valleys. We had a fellow classmate die all too young after living with diabetes. We have had families that have used the services of the Ronald McDonald House. We have classmates and their families fighting cancer and sadly those that have needed the services of hospice. People are still driving drunk. The list is endless.
The idea to Make-A-Difference in 2008 has two purposes 1) put people at ease with the cost of the reunion, and 2) create an opportunity to do a little fund-raising from an unexpected source for a deserving charity. Simply stated - collectively as the GFC Class of 1988, give back a little something to a community that bought our magazines, candy bars, calendars, and sponsored our sporting events, prom, after prom and so on.
A challenge to all of you: Round up your payment to the next "8" with that portion of your payment to be a guarantee donation to the charity chosen.
Even if you are not attending the reunion you can send a donation. On the reunion registration form fill out your name and address information and then near the bottom of the form enter your donation amount and send it to the address listed.
Thank you to everyone for your support.
